Main Events of the Month

February has some big holidays and celebrations to inspire your content. We’re talking about Black History Month and Valentine’s Day. Two opportunities to connect with your audiences that you should definitely not miss.

Lasting an entire month, Black History Month is one of the most impactful occasions of the year. It allows businesses to be a part of something larger than themselves. And Valentine’s Day has as much potential for profit as it does for romance, with individuals spending an average of $196 in honor of the holiday.

To make the most of these significant dates, we’ve put together some ideas for content you can post in honor of both of these occasions. Check them out below.

Black History Month (All Month)

Black History Month is celebrated throughout all of February, serving as an essential opportunity for people in the United States and beyond to learn about and honor the rich history of African Americans and their many accomplishments.

Established in 1976 by American president Gerald Ford, Black History Month is recognized worldwide, remembering important people and events in the entire African diaspora. Black History Month implores us as businesses to take the time to educate ourselves and our audiences, recognize Black figures and their contributions and support our Black customers, peers, and community members. Here are some ways your business can make the most of this important month to celebrate, uplift, and support.

Something to keep in mind throughout Black History Month is that many social media platforms launch their own yearly initiatives to celebrate Black stories and uplift Black voices. For example, Instagram’s official 2021 hashtag #ShareBlackStories sought to promote Black voices as Black communities were disproportionately affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. Consider checking what your favorite social media platforms are doing in honor of Black History month to see how you can participate and incorporate it in your content throughout February.

Black History Month Content Ideas

  • Short Educational Videos – Black History Month offers the opportunity to create content that engages, inspires, and most importantly, educates. There is so much to learn about Black history. Consider creating videos that shed some light on perhaps overlooked significant figures and events. Perhaps you can make a video highlighting important accomplishments by Black people in your industry or field. For example, if you’re selling beauty products, you might make a video about Madam C.J. Walker, or if you’re in the automotive industry, you can create one about Frederick Patterson. For inspiration, start with one of Promo’s Black History Month collection templates.
  • Supportive Videos – Can you think of any Black business owners, influencers, or members of your community who should be recognized this month? Making videos interviewing or featuring them is a perfect way to celebrate Black History Month.
  • Announce a Collaboration – Black History Month is a perfect time to release a new product with Black creators and entrepreneurs in your field. If you decide to create such a project, don’t forget to make a video announcing it to your customers!
  • Inspiring Videos – What quotes from Black figures from history inspire you? Share a video featuring these quotes to pass on the spark.

Promo tip: Black History Month is the perfect opportunity to dive into Promo’s editorial footage library and highlight Black figures throughout history in every video you create. From political figures and athletes all the way to historical moments in Black history, our editorial library has all the footage you need to create powerful, celebratory videos.

Groundhog Day (Feb 2)

Feeling a little sick of this long winter? So are many of us, which is why people worldwide await February 2nd, AKA Groundhog Day, with bated breath. As the tradition goes, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, winter will last for six more weeks. Otherwise, spring will arrive early.

Sure, it’s a little silly and superstitious, but it also gives us something to entertain us during these dreary months. Plus, there’s always the opportunity to rewatch a cult favorite film starring Bill Murray, Groundhog Day.

Groundhog Day Content Ideas:

  • Video Announcement – Not all of your followers are going to be anxiously awaiting the result of the groundhog’s search for his shadow. However, they still might be interested in knowing what happens. You can make a video announcing the results of the Groundhog Day tradition. If he doesn’t see his shadow, your video can celebrate the coming early spring. Otherwise, you might even console your audience about the six extra weeks of winter by offering a coupon code.
  • Listicle Video – The film Groundhog Day is beloved by many. Join your audience in reminiscing over this amazing movie by creating a listicle video highlighting your favorite quotes and moments.

Whether you’re interested in it for the sports, the halftime show, the commercials, or just the yummy Super Bowl snacks and foods, there’s plenty to be entertained by when it comes to this date. • Super Bowl Promotions – The Super Bowl offers several opportunities for special offers and promotions. If your company sells food, you can offer it on sale in honor of the game. • Listicle – You can encourage your audience to get in on Random Acts of Kindness Day by creating a listicle video offering multiple options for different acts of kindness they can perform. Skip the Straw Day (Feb 25)

Held on the fourth Friday of every February, Skip the Straw Day is made to raise awareness about littering, the overuse of plastic, and environmental protection. It encourages people to stop using plastic straws in their drinks. An important cause to champion, here are some ideas for ways you can do your part in recognizing Skip the Straw Day this year.

Skip the Straw Day Content Ideas:

  • Educational Video – Skip the Straw Day is still relatively new, having been observed for the first time in 2017, meaning your audience may have never heard of it until they see your post. So why not create an educational video offering a few statistics about the harmful effects of plastic straw use to help your audience know why this day matters? You can use Promo’s huge photo and video library to find relevant images. Search terms like straw, drink, litter, plastic, and environment.
  • Slideshow Video – Does your business offer products that help people go plastic-free? If so, Skip the Straw Day is a perfect opportunity to create a slideshow video promoting these products.
  • Personal Video – What steps does your business take to minimize your plastic use? Make a video showing off photos that demonstrate your commitment to reducing waste in your place of work. Encourage your followers to respond with pictures of their own efforts.

Extra Days

Pizza Day (Feb 9)

Make a Friend Day (Feb 11)

Make a Friend Day is celebrated yearly on February 11th, and it’s definitely worth telling your followers about. Whether you use it as an opportunity to get to know your audience a bit better, share some fun facts about your staff, or encourage people to make new friends by going to your business and striking up a conversation with a stranger, there are lots of ways to market on this occasion.

Singles Awareness Day (Feb 15)

Okay, not everybody gets as excited about Valentine’s Day as we do. Some people don’t love to be reminded of being single. But then some want to celebrate their singleness. That’s how we got Singles Awareness Day, the day after Valentine’s. Because you (and your customers) deserve something to celebrate even if you haven’t been hit by Cupid’s arrow anytime recently.
